As creators of a broadcasting software that empowers people to share what they love and let their voices be heard, we can’t undervalue the importance of the open internet. Net neutrality is synonymous with free speech and we have to do everything in our power to make sure it remains intact.
If net neutrality was gone tomorrow, our experience on the web would be very different. Certain sites would load faster than others and you may even need to pay to access your favorite pages. As a broadcaster, that would mean that your content may not reach people equally.
This is not just an issue in the United States.This is a global issue. The potential implications could mean throttled or censored access to sites for users outside America. The US and its citizens have a responsibility to fight to keep the net neutral. If we don’t succeed, then it is only a matter of time before other countries follow the same path.
Simply put, our team rejects the notion of a closed internet and we are calling for our community to lend their voices.
So, what can we do now? For one, get the word out. We’re certainly not the first and we won’t be the last company to make one of these announcements but the severity is not lessened in the slightest. Secondly, take action! Tell the FCC and/or email congress.
Net neutrality has been threatened before and we can save it again.
